Zuidam Dry Gin

Based on a traditional Dutch model of distilling, which includes the involvement of windmills to help grind the various grains, keeping a decisively old school feel from start to finish.

14 - zudiamStarted back in 1975 by Fred van Zuidam, who built his one copper pot still distillery in his homeland of the Netherlands. Since opening with only a 300 square meter warehouse with one production line, Zuidam has grown substantially, now embracing a 3500-sqm distillery with four copper stills and four production lines. Keeping the business in the family, Fred has since passed his distillery on to his sons but still maintains an ever-watchful eye over the establishment he created.

This is made even more valuable by the very fact that Zuidam is now the only distillery in the world that produces Genever by milling all their grains using windmills, which is how it was traditionally done in at the peak of the Dutch spice trade. Each of the botanicals are distilled separately in a copper still and then blended with neutral grain spirit. Fresh Spanish oranges and lemons are used instead of dried peels alongside Italian juniper berries and orris root, Moroccan coriander, whole Madagascar vanilla beans, Indian liquorice root, Sri Lankan cardamom and angelica root.  Cooper’s Price $29.98

Deerhammer Bullwheel Gin from Buena Vista, Colorado

27 - deerhammer bullwheelIn a world of GNS based gins, Bullwheel Gin stands out as a legit grain to glass spirit! We mill and mash 100% malted barley to create an exceptionally flavorful base, very much like the historic Dutch Genevers. From there we macerate (soak) a mindfully selected range of botanicals before straining and then re-distilling the spirit though a gin basket packed with even more botanicals. We believe this process to yield a far more complex flavor profile than other methods of gin production.

The original gins were concocted to be a kidney remedy. Bullwheel gin is a hybrid between a Dutch Genever and a new western style gin. We utilize over 15 freshly sourced botanicals to create an intensely complex gin. Bottled at 86 proof, it sips smoother than silk, and serves as a unique backbone in cocktails. Cooper’s Price $29.98

Nolet’s Silver Dry Gin from Holland

19 - nolettsEleventh generation heirs, Carl Jr. and Bob Nolet collaborated with their father, Carolus Nolet Sr., tenth generation distillery owner, to create a fresh take on gin that appeals to a new generation of gin drinkers. Floral and fruit-forward, the Silver uses some unique ingredients like Turkish rose, peach and raspberry. Perfectly integrated and delineated, these flavors work wonders together and can be coaxed to the foreground by a thoughtful mixologist.

A modern twist on the classic dry gin designed to enhance all your classic cocktails and inspire you to create new one. This gin is uniquely toxic. It is NOT meant for a traditional martini, but rather a cocktail of its own or straight from the shaken cask. Cooper’s Price $44.98

Recipe: Blood Orange Blossom, 1oz NOLET’S Silver Dry Gin, 3/4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice, 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup, 1/2 ounce Aperol, Blood Orange Wedge or, Orange Twist.

Big Gin Bourbon Barrel Aged from Washington

11 - big o ginThird-generation distiller Ben Capdevielle grew to appreciate the art of distillation in his mid-twenties. After twelve years in the restaurant industry, Ben & business partner Todd Leabman came together to build the little distillery that could. Creating a legacy, making quality & consistent products for gin-lovers & straight up enjoying the game is what Captive Spirits is all about.

Bourbon Barreled Big Gin. 100% Corn base spirit, with a relatively traditional botanical bill buoyed by Tasmanian Pepperberry and Cardamom, the folks at Captive Spirits Distilling rest their flagship gin in barrels formerly used by Heaven Hill Distillery for their Bourbon. After six months in those barrels, the spirit emerges with only a surprisingly light straw hue. Cooper’s Price $39.99
