Kellerei Andrian, Cantina Adriano, Pinot Grigio – Alto Adige, Italy – Cantina Andriano was founded in 1893 and was the first cooperative in Alto Adige. The vineyards see the sun from early morning to mid-afternoon. These cooler climatic conditions with respect to other areas in Alto Adige are responsible for the crisp acidity in the wines that give them their unique complexity and freshness. The wines are elegant with good aging potential. Fruity bouquet which reminds of ripe honeydew melons.  Soft and full with a well-balanced, long finish.

The vineyards are unique to the area because they are protected to the west by Mount Gantkofel which is made of dolomite rock and calcareousstone. The sedimentary rock from this peak over the years has eroded and settled forming a downward sloping hill of deposited soil at the base of this valley that expands like a fan from the mouth of the valley, over an area of 200 from south-southeast to northeast and at an altitude of 260340 meters above sea level.  Cooper’s Price $15.99

Embocadero Del Duero Tempranillo – Castilla y Leon, Spain – This winery is located in what the local experts call ‘The Golden Triangle’ of Tempranillo grapes in the Ribera del Duero region. A small group of growers founded the bodega in the early 1960’s, but it remained in obscurity for about 40 years, selling their wine to prominent bodegas in the region until Cesar Mate a young winemaker / enologist, joined the bodega. The price is more than affordable for a wine of this appellation. The cuvée unveils an intense profile marked by aromas of ripe black fruits, restrained wood and a fleshy texture.

Tolaini Al Passo Toscana – Toscana, Italy – Pierluigi Tolaini, a native of Tuscany, immigrated to Canada in 1959. He planned to work a few years, make some money then go back home, buy a farm, marry his high school sweetheart and make some good wine and not with his feet this time! It took Pierluigi 45 years before he came back with a clear vision of the farm and the quality of wine he wanted to make. In 1998 he returned to his native land as he vowed he would and purchased some of the best land in the region of Chianti Classico in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga. He constructed, from the roots up, this state-of-the-art winery with the intention of bringing the best technology and winemakers together to bring to light wines that would be a true expression of this significant region.   Spicy notes of French oak rise above the distinct aromas of cherry and berry.  The palate has a backbone of Sangiovese, a roundess of Merlot and enhanced body from the oak.  The fruit purity and varietal signatures are a testament to the meticulous care given to the young vines.  NOTE:  some sediment may occur in the bottom of the bottle as the wine is not filtered.
