Corvidae “Wise Guy” Sauvignon Blanc by Owen Roe

Corvidae is the Latin name for the family of birds that includes the Crow, Raven, Jay and Magpie. These “dark” birds are everywhere in the vineyards of Eastern Washington. Their reputation as crafty, adaptable, and somewhat dubious characters is a fitting icon for our suspiciously terrific value wines from this region. The geology and climate here yields rich, complex fruit, with luscious fragrance and bright acidity.

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most dynamic grapes grown in Yakima Valley. When fully ripe it still has the hallmark acidity and fragrance of world class versions.  The Outlook Vineyard is the source of this fruit. Planted in 1982, the vines yield perfectly ripe fruit that has fully ripe flavors, plenty of minerality, with tremendous natural acidity

Pair this bright, refreshing wine with oysters on the half shell, sauteed scallops or a mixed green salad with Chèvre and a citrus vinaigrette.

Ryan Patrick Riesling Yakima Valley, Washington

The grapes were gently pressed and the juice was cold settled. After racking off the solids, the juice was inoculated and allowed to ferment slowly for approximately 30 days, until the proper residual sugar/acid balance was achieved. At that point, the juice was chilled to halt the fermentation and stabilize the wine producing an off-dry Riesling.

Winemaker Notes “Olsen Brothers Vineyard attains the ripe character we consistently like in our Riesling. The acid and sugar balance is complementary to the fruit characters in the wine. We designated this single vineyard Riesling to capture the distinct expression of Yakima Valley fruit.”– Jeremy Santo, Winemaker

Tasting Notes:  Aroma:  Ripe pear, white peach and orange blossom with hints of fresh apples and mineral undertones tickles creating excitement for the taste.

Flavor: Bright, brilliant fresh flavors of apples and subtle pear are shared with acidity making this off-dry Riesling a real companion for the summer.

Pairings:  Roasted fowl, pork chops, veal, spicy dishes from the Orient or Nepal shared with the one you love the most.

Geraldine Laval – Le Petit Clos Maia from Pay’s d’ Herault 2015

The wine and its vineyards are Certified Organic. At the Clos Maïa, it is a woman who manages: vineyards, winemaking, marketing … Géraldine Laval takes over the reins of the Domaine created in 2009. Young winegrower who perfectly embodies the succession of Languedocien, she knows the particularity of each French vineyard. She studied in Bordeaux, vinified with Jean-Louis Chave in Hermitage, Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet and finally with Olivier Jullien in Jonquières: the emblematic winegrower of Languedoc.

As far as vinification is concerned, there is nothing very complicated, because for Geraldine, 95% of the work is done in the vineyards.  It’s aged 10 months in concrete vats, no oak.

Wine Notes:  The wine is mostly Grenache with a little Syrah.  The aromas are explosive with dark raspberry, black cherry, spice and a touch of licorice.  The texture of the wine leaves you happy with flavors similar to its aromatics.  Terrific pairing with Provence roasted chicken and meat charcuterie.

Ink Works Wine Co. Pinot Noir

Tolosa’s style of wine making reflects our commitment to quality. Our goal is to produce a perfectly balanced wine and to stay true to the characteristic of the grape varietal. Selecting only the top 10% of the fruit from our Edna Ranch’s 750 acres allows us to consistently produce distinctive wines. We produce estate grown wines that come from our vineyards planted in the cooler climate of Edna Valley.

Kevin’s Notes:  Rarely, do I buy wines for which the industry refers to as “proprietary wines”, or second labels made by an estate winery, but there are exceptions, right.  The winery Tolosa is a highly regarded winery in Central Coast, California and their representative visited our store and I was pleasantly surprised at the price to taste ratio with this Pinot Noir.  The nose is very fragrant with purple and subtle spice.  It is a full-bodied Pinot that honestly could pass off as a Pinot Noir twice its price.  It’s a really great buy and hope you find as pleasant as I.
