2017 Whiskey Tasting-January 13th & 14th

It’s time to warm our wet bones from unpredictable weather! I mean what the hell is going on around herrrre…. I know, let’s do a whiskey tasting!!!!!!!!!!!

Two years ago, we tasted the 10^th Mountain Division Rye and Bourbon so it’ll be fun to see how they’ve progressed in the last 2 years.

From Kentucky we will be featuring something old and something new; EH Taylor is named for the founder of Buffalo Trace from the 1880’s and the Small Batch is a true sipping whiskey.

Bird Dog is a new comer selling great bourbon whiskey at terrific prices. This is a great entry level whiskey for many!

Over the last 5 years, women have represented the fastest growing market group for drinking whiskey, so c’mon down ladies and celebrate Glen-a-palooza “Ladies Night” this Friday!

10th Mountain Division Distillery

Go West, work hard, and ski harder,” were Fred Vetter’s parting words as his grandson, Christian Avignon, left upstate New York for the mountains of Vail, Colorado, where Avignon would eventually cofound 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Company. Vetter shared the axiom because it worked for him. He was a medic who served in the 10th Mountain Division—an organization established in 1943 to prepare soldiers for combat in cold, harsh conditions and alpine terrain. The National Ski Patrol recruited skiers from ski schools and universities, and enlisted Olympians to train the men. When veterans returned home after WWII, they laid the foundation for the ski industry.

“They had come from around the country to Camp Hale and then, post war, moved back to their respective areas and wanted the public to experience what they had experienced training in the mountains of Colorado. Resorts from the east to west coasts were born overnight from a brotherhood of men who had found their passion.” Ryan Thompson and Christian Avignon, the founders, are just as passionate about the ingredients they’re using to make these spirits. “Our corn comes from Olathe, Colorado, which is world-renowned for its sweet, sweet corn,” says Thompson. “Palisade, Colorado, is known for its amazingly delicious peaches, which will be used for our cordial. Our cordial will also have a hint of Colorado sage, found growing in the wild all over the state. Our other grains are sourced from farms in central Colorado just a few hours away. Our water is pure Rocky mountain snowmelt being fed to us from a creek just up the road.”

EH Taylor Small Batch Bourbon

As founding father of the bourbon industry, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. left an indelible legacy. His dedication to distilling began at the close of the Civil War when he purchased O.F C. Distillery. There, he developed innovative techniques that are still in use today. During his time, Taylor implemented several innovative methods still used today, including climate controlled aging warehouses. E.H. Taylor, Jr. Single Barrel is aged exclusively in Warehouse C, which was built by Taylor in 1881 and proven to be an excellent aging warehouse. Tasting Notes: Tastes of caramel corn sweetness, mingled with butterscotch and licorice. The aftertaste is a soft mouth-feel that turns into subtle spices of pepper and tobacco.
