BRAND STORY:

Journeyman Distillery is located in an 1800’s corset and buggy whip factory in Three Oaks, Michigan. Once a dry town, we feel we’ve finally added the essential ingredient to a great party. Corsets, Whips & Whiskey is a single-grain, cask strength version of our Buggy Whip Wheat that comes directly from barrel-to-glass. Named after the products produced here at the historic Featherbone factory building throughout time; this whiskey is a true tribute to American manufacturing. This limited release whiskey showcases the high quality and terroir of the organic Michigan wheat used to produce it. The 100% wheat provides a soft sweetness and smoothness to this whiskey unlike any other and reminiscent of an Irish whiskey on the palate.

Hotaling – formerly Anchor Distilling – was originally founded by Fritz Maytag, the same beverage visionary who sparked the craft beer movement with his purchase of Anchor Brewing in 1965 , and later starting Anchor Distilling Co., in 1993 – now Hotaling & Co.,

Old Potrero 100% malted rye has been out of the marketplace for nearly two years – as Fritz Maytag and Head Distiller of 30 years, Bruce Joseph, made the commitment to making a whiskey with a minimum age-statement of 6 years.  What’s important to notice is while other whiskey houses are eliminating age-statements, Hotaling is going the other direction putting quality over demand and the All Mighty dollar!

The Whiskey – Old Potrero 100 % Malted Rye Whiskey with a 97 Proof is a testament to the power of the pioneering spirit and the celebrated return of pot-distilled whiskey in the United States. Distilled in San Francisco, Old Potrero is credited as the first American craft whiskey to hit the market since Prohibition.

With their extremely high-quality barrel selection of handmade, new fine grain charred American oak together SFs unique climate and you’ve got a true San Francisco original with history, pedigree, and excellent flavorPrice $68.98

Castle & Key Kentucky Straight Bourbon Small Batch #4

“The decline in the popularity of bourbon in the 60s and 70s heralded the closure of several once famous whiskey producers. We fortunate folk are living in a time of rebirth for these once crumbling sites, such as the restored property that now houses Castle & Key in Frankfort, Kentucky.

In 1887, Colonel E.H. Taylor built the sprawling complex, which includes visually striking and fascinating buildings such as a key-shaped Springhouse that, as the name suggests, housed and houses again the distillery’s aquifer. There is indeed a castle on the grounds next to a whimsical train station that the Colonel used to draw visitors to the grounds long before touring distilleries began a popular pastime. The distillery, known as Old Taylor Distillery, shuttered in 1972 and the grounds were abandoned for four decades.

Fast-forward to 2014, and Will Arvin and Wes Murry purchased the rundown grounds with the aim of restoring them to their former glory and perhaps heights beyond (Arvin is now the sole owner). In late 2018, with enough repairs completed, they reopened the site to visitors, welcoming guests to multiple tasting rooms and garden walks along the Glenns Creek.”

In the years since, a number of brands, like Pinhook and Penelope, have signed on to contract distill there, meaning they use the distilling equipment to make whiskey to their own specifications. So while you may have tasted a bourbon made at the distillery, this is still the first one released under the Castle & Key name.

The Whiskey

  • The Mashbill is consistently 73% White Corn, 10% Rye and, 17% Malted Barley
  • Aged 4 years

Kevin’s Notes – I only got one 6-pack of Batch #1 and it went out very quickly.  We tried to get more, but it was extremely allocated.  This is Batch #4, and while we don’t have a great, I do have enough to put into this Saturdays, and I expect it to be a big hit, but don’t wait bc I have NO IDEA when I’ll  get more of this awesome, affordably priced Bourbon!  Price $49.98

Smoke Wagon Uncut “The Younger” Straight Bourbon 114.08 Proof

From the Master Distiller and Owner of Nevada Distilling

The journey to create Uncut the Younger began around October 2020. I tried a Straight Bourbon blend before proofing it down and I was really impressed with the flavor profile. It was fruit forward with tons of delicate candy flavors and big cinnamon spice on the finish. My original thought was to create a younger version of Uncut Unfiltered, and release it as a Rare and Limited batch. In December 2020, when the first Rare and Limiteds’ were announced, I quickly realized that a R&L would never retail for less than regular Uncut, so the idea was put on a back burner.

A few months later the company that makes our clear stock bottles for Straight, informed me they were coming out with an amber version. I was interested and I knew exactly what to use those for. I let them know I wanted as many as they could get me. Releasing a Rare & Limited younger Uncut was one thing, but being able to offer an affordable cask strength bourbon that could be one of our core expressions AND a high proof lover’s daily sipper, really got me excited. I truly believe having superior and affordable bourbons is essential.  Also I wanted Straight to have a cask strength sibling the way Small Batch has Uncut Unfiltered, it all just made sense.

A year and a half later – Uncut the Younger, our second expression in the entry level category is finally here! Consisting mainly of 4 year 36% rye bourbon from several floors and warehouse locations. Uncut the Younger is blended to be fruit forward, with tons of candy flavor notes and finishing with some bold cinnamon spice with gentle heat. It’s non chill filtered so it’s buttery and creamy, drinking more delicately than one would think based on its proof.

Hope you love drinking it as much as I loved creating it!”

Cheers,
