Grimaldi Langhe Sauvignon Blanc – Giacomo Grimaldi was founded in 1930 by Ernesto  Grimaldi. In 1983 the winery was inherited by Giacomo, who sold the greatest part of his grapes in bulk, while keeping only a small part to be bottled for sale to a mostly local clientele. In 1996 Ferruccio Grimaldi, Giacomo’s son decided to continue the family wine business. Animated by a great passion, Ferruccio started to produce wines exclusively from the family’s vineyards.

Kevin’s Notes: There’s something about Italian Sauvignon Blanc and I can’t put my finger on it.  They can be very below average, or, (like this one) they can be some of the best white wines you’ve ever tasted! This Sauvignon is incredible with its light almond and subtle stone fruit nose and flavors.  It does NOT have the strong aggressive citrus or green pepper character of many of its brethren. Its mouthfeel is broad and round with great acidity.  It makes you salivate and satisfies completely! Quite frankly, it’s an outstanding white for this time of year and at this price it’s a bargain. Envînate Albahra, Garnacha Tintorrera – Albahra (Castilian for “small sea”) is named for the vineyard area in the Almansa region close to the town of Albacete, located at the southeastern tip of Castilla-La Mancha. The Garnacha Tintorera, also called Alicante Bouchet, is from a 3-parcel vineyard on clay/calcareous soils, and the Moravia Agria (a high-acid, low alcohol blending grape) is from a single vineyard on sandy clay-calcareous soils in neighboring Manchuela. It is pruned to get larger grapes, since there is only 50ha of Moravia Agria left in all of Spain. All grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately by parcel. The Garnacha Tintorera is foot-trodden in vat with 30-50% stems included and 6-10 days skin maceration, then fermented and raised on fine lees in concrete for 8 months; the Moravia Agria is completely destemmed and sees 7 days maceration before being pressed and raised on fine lees in 228L used French barriques for 8 months, all without battonage. The wine is then blended and bottled unfined, unfiltered and with very little SO2 addition. This is a wine with a pure high-toned nose, floral red fruit, with hints of spice and bursting with minerality. An extremely versatile food wine, especially with Mediterranean meats and seafood. Paolo Monti 2007 Barbera d’Alba – Located at Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Langhe hills, the estate was founded in 1996, when Pier Paolo Monti purchased a few vineyards in the area as well as the adjacent farmstead, and built the winery on the latter’s premises. The vineyards of Bussia, San Martino, Val di Sacco, Camie, Chiese, are all within the Monforte commune and cover a total of approximately 16 hectares (25 acres). The newly built winery is functional in layout, state-of-the-art in equipment, with separate, temperature-controlled areas for each phase from fermentation to bottling. In the underground cellars, the wines are matured and aged in oak.Attentive vineyard management, modern vinification and meticulous élevage yield a range of characterful, top-quality wines. Heady, perfumed Barbera with great depth and complexity and a fleshy indulgent palate. Incredibly intense Barbera character, inky and dense, powerful through the palate and afterwards, yet subtle and with a suppleness rarely associated with this variety. This is a 2007 vintage Barbera! The winery cellared this vintage and just released them to the public. It is drinking fantastic!!!  Cooper’s Price $22.99

Beauregard Ducasse Cuvée Lagupeau Graves, Bordeaux – Château Beauregard Ducasse was established by Albert Duran in 1850 in Mazères, south of the Graves appellation. Jacques Perromat (6th generation of Perromat winemakers) took over the property of his in-laws in 1983. He has combined technology and tradition to express the best potential of the terroir of Beauregard Ducasse, which is marked by its complexity: gravel, sand and ferruginous concretions and a dominant clay-limestone. Our particularity is to be exhibited on the highest slope of the Graves appellation, which gives us an excellent maturity of the grapes.

60% Merlot 30% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Petit Verdot

This wine has a dark and brilliant color. The aromas of red fruits are very assertive on the nose, spicy notes enhance the fruity aromas. The tannins are elegant. Good persistence in the mouth will delight your palate.  Regular $16.99 Now $14.99
